Site Map and Navigation Tips

As explained in the 'Document Download' page of this site, the information presented gets more detailed and subject-specific the deeper into the directory layers you go and are shown as a hierarchy, or 'inverted tree' with the more general subjects at the top, and the more detailed or subject specific pages at the bottom. These deeper pages are generally accessed through links from the parent directory and there is very little cross-linkage between major subjects or sections. This page allows you to jump to the section/subject without navigating through the layers. Each box shown in the map indicates a different directory (with the exception of the Document Downloads and Site Map boxes which are pages, not directories).

Clicking on the text boxes in the map below will load the main page for that directory and/or the summary of that particular subject. Links to additional pages may be present if other pages exist. A prime example of this is in the various directories of the Personnel Armour Kits section. The main page for the 'Modules' directory contains numerous links to product descriptions and product brochures which are not shown on this map, and not shown on the menu below the Bastion Security logo. Not all documents available on this web site are shown in this map in order to conserve space and make it readable. Clicking on a text box in the image map below will open that page in this window.

The arrows between text boxes indicate that the directory is linked from the main page of the higher level box. The pages loaded by clicking on the 'Gold' and 'Bright Yellow' text boxes can also be accessed directly from the main menu which is shown below the Bastion Security logo above. This map will be updated as more sections are added and/or the structure of this site is revised.

Navigation Tips

In order to speed up loading time, and conserve disk space, we use frames in the presentation of this web site. The top frame is fixed and shows the logo and the menu which allows you to load the main page for that section (usually a topic summary). The actual web page shown will be displayed in the lower frame which is below the logo and menu. Both frames are defaulted to 800 pixels in width, thus a minimum display resolution of 1024x768 is recommended in order to remove the horizontal and vertical scroll bars which will show up if the window is too narrow. Simply widen the browser window to remove these scroll bars if they show up in the top logo frame.

Please note that this web-site has been designed to be navigated and viewed usaing the two-frame system. As shown below, the document pages themselves only contain links to pages 'lower' in the directory hierarchy and few, if any links have been provided to go up the hierarchy and the logo/menu frame is required to fully navigate throughout this website. The access point for this site is as follows; www.thefortressgroup.com/bastion. If you type the individual page in your browser (www.thefortressgroup.com/bastion/SiteMap.html) or your entry to this site was through a search engine which displays a link to a specific page, then the menu will not be visible as it is in a different frame and your site navigation will be limited to the links shown on that page, if any.

Previous versions of this web site had a separate frame at the bottom of the browser window to keep our contact information visible at all times, but it rendered the main frame almost unreadable for people who had small monitors with small screen resolutions. As with this page, the text box containing the contact information has been added to the end (bottom) of each page on this web site. If the contact text box is not visible on your browser, simply scroll down to the bottom of the page and it will be visible.

Also at the bottom of most pages, you will find a text box above the contact information which allows you to download a printer-friendly version of that page, and/or other documents on similar subjects. In most instances, if a web page is titled 'Summary', the downloadable version of that page will be exactly the same content and format, and the 'Overview' document to be downloaded will not only provide further details of that subject, but also contain the Summary as well. All downloadable documents are provided in .pdf format and require the use of Adobe Acrobat Reader which is available for most, if not all Operating Systems and Hardware platforms. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, it can be downloaded free of charge by clicking on the image in that text box and follow the instructions on the Adobe website.

Web pages on this site may be accessed in one of three methods;

1. Through the Main Menu located below the Bastion Security logo. Simply move the mouse pointer over the desired menu section and a sub-menu will be displayed listing the main sections and documents. Click on the desired menu item to load the main page (may or may not be the summary) of that section;

2. Link to 'lower' sections or pages will be available in the document page itself. Internal Links will typically be shown as bold text in subject titles, underlined and a different colour than black. They will not typically have a web address showing, just the text. Links to External sites will be shown as a full web address, or an image. Note that the actual display of the text and Internet links are controlled by your browser and may not follow this convention. Most, if not all images, will be hyperlinks. If they are, clicking on the image will load that page. Most, if not all text boxes will be image maps and contain multiple links within one image. Move your mouse cursor over the image and if that section is a link, a text box will be shown providing a description of that document and clicking on that section will load the page, and

3. Speialized pages exist, such as this Site Map and the Document Downloads pages which contain direct links to those pages and will display them in this main frame (.pdf documents may be displayed by Adobe Acrobat Reader in a separate window if you do not have the Acrobat Reader plug-in for your browser. Once those new pages are loaded, these pages can be re-accessed by using the 'Back' button in your browser, or by re-loading these pages from the menu, located below the Bastion Security logo above.

We strive to make our website readable by as many people as possible and therefore abide by industry standards and shy away from platform or vendor specific software. Having said that, there are still some vendors which do not share this philosophy and insist on using proprietary formats to present or view their content. There are also many people and organizations who do not update their software or hardware to keep up with the latest standards and can not view a large portion of websites that are 'cutting-edge' or use proprietary formats to present content.
